Clive Cox Stable Tour
26 May 2021

Clive Cox appears to be looking forward Royal Ascot with plenty of relish this year with a select band of two-year-olds likely to be right there up in the firing line and also the classy Supremacy amongst his squad with a Commonwealth Cup his aim.

Supremacy showed himself to be one of the best juveniles in action with an exhilarating performance in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood topped by a Group 1 success in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and a below par effort on his return in the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot is readily explained with a less than perfect blood count.

Diligent Harry has already shown he could prove one of the emerging sprinting talents with his three successes from four starts and may be another thrust into the heat of battle in the Commonwealth Cup and there are some likely types in the handicap division that could well keep the flag flying during the season.

Clive kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about his main hopes as he looks to build on his current 20 winners.

Winner of three of his 22 starts and currently rated 87. Best effort last season on his reappearance in the Silver Wokingham at Royal Ascot (6f) in June when fourth, beaten two and a quarter lengths, to Chiefofchiefs off a mark of 95.
He is a very reliable sprint handicapper who holds his form remarkably well and can always be relied on. He has dropped to a mark of 87 and that should help him.

Winner of five of his 33 starts and currently rated 101. Finished fourth, beaten two and three quarter lengths, to Came From The Dark in a handicap at Newbury (5f) in April off a mark of 103.
Tis Marvellous is a yard favourite and he broke the course record at Maisons-Laffitte in the Prix Robert Papin at two. He continues to perform well at the highest level and is probably best at five furlongs but he will run in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot. He loves Ascot so much and he has finished runner-up in the race before.

He had a light campaign last year after running well and when encountering soft ground and he is a fast ground performer. We have seven-furlong options down for him as soon as the ground dries up.

He won the Victoria Cup after an exciting campaign last year when winning at Ascot and Newbury. We will look forward to stepping him up in class now and he will probably run in the John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.

Streamline is a top of the ground performer who won a Group 3 at two and had a tendon injury in a hind leg but won well at Wolverhampton in March. Hopefully, he will be competitive in handicaps over six furlongs on a fast surface.

Winner of three of his 4 starts and currently rated 105. Returned to winning form with an impressive two length win from Mighty Gurkha in the AW Championships at Lingfield (6f) in April
I couldn't be more pleased with his belated racecourse appearance and his subsequent progress when he won three times in the spring. He has had a mini break and has come back really strong but is slightly hindered by the weather. He has an entry in the Commonwealth Cup which is a possibility and bearing his mind his lack of experience he gives me plenty of confidence to have that type of entry.

He won very well at Sandown last year on a fast surface and ran very well although not lasting home in the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury. He has bags of speed and strength but would like a drier rather than wetter surface.

He stepped up to a mile and a quarter at Salisbury on his penultimate start and was just touched off over that trip at Nottingham on Sunday. I think he can progress with his racing and could potentially stay further in the future. He is a very strong athletic individual and I hope he is just coming to the boil properly now.

Winner of one of his 4 starts and currently rated 92. Off the mark with a length victory from Tantastic in a novice event at Wolverhampton (5f) in May.
He broke his maiden at Wolverhampton a couple of weeks ago after a very promising two-year-old career. He was second first time out and then fourth in the Windsor Castle and he was concerning me with his wind, so he has had a wind operation over the winter. We will hopefully reach fruition on a sounder surface from now on.

Winner of four of her 9 starts and currently rated 107. Finished sixth, beaten two and a half lengths, to Rohaan in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock (6f) on Saturday.
She ran well in the Fred Darling on a quicker surface than ideal and found the ground much more to her liking when running well in the Sandy Lane on Saturday. I always felt as though a mile would be in her reach, but I was slightly unsure after she showed so much speed in the Fred Darling. We took an option in the Chartwell where she was just beaten by more experienced and battle-hardened elders and I am sure she has the class and ability to continue her progress in Pattern company.

Winner of one of his 6 starts and currently rated 109. Finished fourth, beaten five and a half lengths, to Mostahdaf in the Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown (1m) last week.
He won the Coventry Stakes at two and having trained his brother to win over a mile and a half I always felt he would stretch out further than six furlongs, but he proved when finishing fourth in a very hot the Heron Stakes that he is clearly not at home over that extra furlong. His comeback run in the Greenham was very promising and I think a step back to seven furlongs will be the way forward now we have realised our limits on stamina. That will guide us for the rest of the season, and I hope he will be competitive in the Jersey or top class seven furlong races or even back over six furlongs on an easy surface.

Winner of three of his 5 starts and currently rated 118. Impressive four length winner from Yazaman in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood (6f) in July and went onto beat Lucky Vega half a length in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket (6f) in September. Finished last of eight, beaten six lengths, to Rohaan in the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes at Ascot (6f) on his reappearance in April.
He was our highest ever rated two-year-old performer last year when he won the Richmond Stakes and signing off his season with a gutsy performance to follow up in the Middle Park. His comeback run was way below expectations and his blood was less than perfect when he returned home. I hope a sounder surface will see a recovery of last year's form. He has a Commonwealth Cup entry and that will probably be our next target. I am very pleased with the way he has trained especially through the last week.

Winner of one of his 2 starts. Off the mark at Bath (5f) last week when scoring impressively by two and a quarter lengths from Haymaker.
He ran on the rain softened ground which I was worried about and I don't think was in his favour but he won nicely and I think six furlongs is going to see him make a further step forward. A drier surface will definitely help as well and in the meantime, I would be helpful we will have a Coventry entry with him.

2 b f Kodiac - Imperialistic Diva
Winner of one of her 2 starts. Scored by a length and a quarter from Sienna Bonnie on her debut at Windsor (5f) in April and subsequently third, beaten a length and three quarters, to Nymphadora in the Listed Marygate Stakes at York (5f) this month.
She won first time out on a sound surface at Windsor and followed that up with a very pleasing black type performance when finishing third in the Marygate at York. She would appreciate drier rather than wetter ground and has a wonderful temperament and a lot of class. I would hope that she would Royal Ascot bound with entries in the Queen Mary and the Albany Stakes.

2 b c Showcasing - Peach Melba
Made an impressive winning debut beating Poderoso two and a quarter lengths at Bath (5f) this month.
He made a really pleasing debut down at Bath and he is by Showcasing. He showed plenty of speed and looks a real five-furlong player at the highest level. He will be targeted at the Norfolk Stakes.

He is a brother to Snazzy Jazzy and a very athletic individual who will appreciate ease in the ground. He has just been growing and maturing into his frame.

2 b f Ardad - Vallila
Winner of one of her 2 starts. Made a winning debut at Bath (5f) in April when beating Mercurial a length and three quarters and finished fifth, beaten four and a quarter lengths, to Silver Bullet Lady in a conditions event at Salisbury (5f) at the start of the month.
Vaunted won first time out at Bath and was hindered by slower ground in a conditions event at Salisbury. She is by Ardad who appears to be making a good impression as a stallion. We are giving her a chance to catch her breath before moving forward on a faster surface again.

Giving his trainer plenty of food for thought and one to keep on the right side.

Progressing nicely and plenty more to offer over seven furlongs.

Supremacy
Below par effort in the Pavilion Stakes readily explained and this high ranker can soon be back on his pedestal.
