Kevin Ryan Stable Tour
10 May 2021

Kevin Ryan had every reason to believe he was Prince Charming in 2020 as Glass Slippers took him and his team to untold heights when taking the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint on an unforgettable day at Keeneland last November.

The Dream Ahead mare had already more than paid her way when landing the Group 1 Flying Five at the Curragh in September and, perhaps worringly for the others in her division, the Queen of the Speedsters will be back for another season shortly.

On the home front, the Hambleton trainer notched up 52 winners and £885,278 in a stop start season which didn't play to stable strengths and with racing back in its familiar calendar there is every chance that Ryan can fly past that total this time around.

Ryan has already made a bright start with 22 winners in the bag and plenty of useful ammunition to go to war with amongst his older horses, three-year-olds and two-year-olds and is looking forward to his local Dante meeting this week.

His assistant Adam Ryan kindly gave a detailed insight of those he hopes can prosper this term to Tony Elves of attheraces.com.

Winner of nine of his 47 starts and currently rated 116. Finished creditable runner-up, beaten two and a quarter lengths, to Cape Byron in a conditions event at Haydock (6f) on Saturday.
He needs no introduction and went agonisingly close to add to his record last year. He ran another solid race at Haydock on Saturday, and he definitely wants that juice in the ground. He is as well as ever and he is still like a two-year-old in the mornings. It will be the same plan with him, and it would be fantastic if he could find another big race.

Winner of seven of his 39 starts and currently rated 97. Finished runner-up, beaten two and a quarter lengths, to Mondammej on his latest start at Pontefract (5f) in April off his current mark.
He came to us last year and was a horse we knew a lot about and he did very well for us to win at Catterick after blowing the start. He is a stalwart in these big handicaps over five and six furlongs and he will be partaking in all of them. Kevin said he might be better not being forced as much and given a bit of time in his races. We will see but I think there is still a big one in him.

Winner of four of his 11 starts and currently rated 96. Finished runner-up, beaten two and a half lengths, to Commanche Falls on his reappearance at Ayr (6f) in April.
He ran some cracking race in big sprint handicaps towards the backend of last season and just a bit unfortunate with the draw etc. He made his return at Ayr after a little wind op, and I thought he ran really well. The ground was just on the sharp side for him, but he will definitely come on for the run and it nice to have a horse of his caliber for King Power. All the big sprint handicaps will be his target for the year, and he will appreciate a little juice in the ground.

Winner of two of his 24 starts and currently rated 102. Landed the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot (6f) last June by a nose from Summerghand off a mark of 99.
He won the Wokingham last year which was fantastic as he had been threatening to win one like that for a while. That will be his target again and he made a really pleasing reappearance over seven furlongs at Thirsk where he just got tired late on. All roads lead to Ascot.

Winner of five of his 36 starts and currently rated 90. Gained his last success when beating Muntadab a length and a half off a mark of 86 at Catterick (7f) in April.
He had a really fantastic season last year and was really consistent. He won very well at Catterick and I don't think that he didn't stay the mile at Thirsk last time he just needs things to fall right for him and it was a bit argy bargy and chaotic then. He is rated 90 and he will be aimed for these seven furlong and mile handicaps. He is probably better over seven furlongs because of the speed they go, and it would be nice if he could win one of these big handicaps like a Bunbury Cup or a Buckingham Palace.

Winner of three of his 14 starts and currently rated 107. Finished third, beaten half a length, to Lazuli in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket (5f) this month on his latest start.
He has put up some great efforts this year without getting his head in front and he's probably improved for a little wind operation last year and being gelded. He is due a big one and it would be nice for him to get his head in front. He will be competing in these five and six furlongs Group 3 Sprints and he's definitely a horse that wants quick ground. Anywhere the ground went against him he wouldn't go too. He has a great attitude and doesn't know when he is beat, and he deserves to get his head in front sooner rather than later.

Winner of seven of her 17 races and currently rated 114. Landed the Group 1 Flying Five at the Curragh (5f) in September by half a length from Keep Busy and surpassed that effort when beating Wet Your Whistle half a length in the Group 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland (5 1/2f) in November.
She had a great season last year when winning in Ireland and obviously making history in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint will live long in the memory. She has done well over the winter and went home to Bearstone Stud and they did a fantastic job with her. She has come back and looks like she might even have strengthened up again over the winter. We are very happy with her and she is in a great spot in her training, and she could start off in the Temple Stakes at Haydock. It will be a familiar route after that with the King's Stand etc under consideration. It's very sporting of Terry and Margaret Holdcroft to keep her in training and she is still young enough to go on before she is retired to the paddocks. Everyone needs a flagbearer for their yard, and we are lucky to have her.

Winner of four of his 13 starts and currently rated 102. Finished runner-up, beaten a length and a quarter, to Light Refrain on her reappearance in a listed Fillies event at Nottingham (6f) on Saturday.
She is similar to Queen Jo Jo and it is good to get the black type into her for Steve Parkin. She is ground dependent but is a good filly when the ground goes soft. She picked up a black type in France last year and she made a very encouraging reappearance at Nottingham on Saturday and hopefully can go on from there.

We were delighted when he won the Silver Cup at Ayr and he always looked like a horse was capable of getting to that sort of level. He backed that up with a good run in the Coral Sprint and certainly fulfilled his potential. He returned with a good third the other day at Doncaster and he looks like he has strengthened again. He will improve for that run and he is one for those big Sprint handicaps throughout the year.

We were delighted with her last year when she won a Group 3 and she is a big fine filly and we will be looking to get more black type into her. She is an absolute pleasure to train and is very straightforward and it would be nice to get some winning black type and then look for something bigger.

Winner of one of his 8 starts and currently rated 107. Finished sixth, beaten four and three quarter lengths, to Top Rank in the Listed Doncaster Mile at Doncaster (1m) in March on is reappearance.
He ran a huge race in the Guineas last year and is very talented. I think possibly going there and going to Ascot it has a few hard runs and that's probably why his form petered out. He has done very well over the winter and we were very pleased with his work and he was gelded. We were disappointed with his run at Doncaster, and he has had a wind operation since then and all things being right he is very talented. If everything is back in his favour he is full of potential. It would be nice to think he could be a Group horse.

She only made her debut last year but was learning very quickly and thrived towards the end of the season when we stepped her up to seven furlongs. I thought she won very well on her reappearance at Ayr where she travelled well into the race and won going away. I think she is going to come on for the run and is a filly on an upward curve.

He is a very talented individual and won the Listed Carnavon Stakes at Windsor last year. He ran pretty well at Wolverhampton over six and Newmarket over seven and we checked his wind out and he's just had a little operation since then. If that has put him right, he can get back to his best. He has a high level of form and is equally adept at six or seven furlongs and whether we go for one of major handicaps or step up to pattern company we will see.

She got off mark last year then just went off the boil after her first few runs and that may have been down to having some condensed runs. We had a lot of horses ready to run in April and then they didn't run until June and with one or two of ours last season that may have been the reason. She has come back this year absolutely flying and has had a little break after three quick runs, but she is a filly we always thought was very capable and she will go for bigger targets throughout the year.

Winner of two of his 5 starts and currently rated 98. Finished runner-up, beaten three quarters of a length, to Golden Pass in a handicap at Thirsk (1m 4f) last month off a mark of 97.
He is a horse we have always liked, and he is very lightly raced. Bringing him back this year we thought he was more the finished physical article, and he made a good start back at Doncaster and we thought he had a bit of improvement in him. He won very well that day and finished second in a muddling race at Thirsk last time. The winner is a good horse, but I think he is one of those horses who is suited by an end to end gallop. He is in the Jorvik Stakes at York over a mile and three and a half furlongs and to be honest I think he is a very nice horse to go to war with in middle distance handicaps. We will see how he gets on, but I think he could be quite versatile regarding trip. Like many of Sheikh Obaid's, many of the family get better with age and he is a nice horse to have.

He went completely off the boil last year and he returned with a win at Newcastle and found the trip on the short side at Wetherby last time and I think he would be ok with a bit of juice in the ground over five and a half but it was very fast that day. He seems to have his enthusiasm back which is important and if that's back there will be more races in him.

He thrived at the end of last year and made a promising return at Pontefract where he just needed the run. He is a big horse and had a bit of time off and was entitled to come on for that run which he did when winning last time. The trip proved no problem, and he is going to be a nice fun horse for Middleham Park Racing. I wouldn't be afraid to drop him down to seven furlongs on a nice galloping track.

She made a winning debut at Newcastle in September and she took a bit of time to come to hand last year and she will improve for her reappearance run. She has been given a mark of 73 and she should be very competitive off that. It would be nice if she could improve through the ranks as the year goes on.

Bellissime started in deep water in the Lowther but ran a cracking race and obviously got off the mark last time. I think she is a talented filly and certainly better than her mark. I think we will eventually be going for some black type with her if we can the right races. She is entered at York on Friday.

He ran a huge race in the Molecomb last year and then was a bit unfortunate and the ground went against him. He is a very compact individual and appreciates quick ground. He was probably a bit behind in his coat on his return and I thought he ran a very nice race at Hamilton last time. He settled a lot better, and Kevin Stott said you wouldn't mind trying him over six again.

Obviously he was knocking on the door plenty last season and I think it was getting close to the point where people might question his attitude, but he won with plenty in hand on his reappearance and that will have been a nice confidence booster for him. He's gone up 10lb and we will have to look at the bigger races for him. Pete and Angela Bailey live in York so it would be nice if he could get in the six furlong race there for them.

He did well last year and looked a horse that was going to strengthen up over the winter. We were really pleased with him at Newmarket and two down your thought he was going to fade away and then he stayed on well up the hill. He may get seven furlongs and he is a horse who is suited by a bit of juice in the ground as well.

We know the family well and barring his second run where he came back a bit under the whether his form has stacked up. He was a bit too keen the other day and was doing too much but he is a horse that is going to improve with racing and time. He is a very scopey individual and the Muhaarar's appear to get better with time. He is equally adept at six and seven furlongs and he should be competing very well in them.

He was set some big tasks last year after winning but, again, he was one who was quite a big horse and gelding him has helped him over the winter. He has run well in both starts and he bumped into a very well handicapped horse at Haydock on Saturday. I think he will be effective over seven furlongs and a mile and can win his races."

She is a really nice filly. She has always been a very tall raw filly and she only had the one run at two. She had shown plenty at home and we were delighted to see her get her head in front last time out at Pontefract. She got away with the quick ground that day, but we would like to think she could turn out into a black type filly further down the line.

He is a horse we always liked last year, and he probably was probably a bit of a head scratcher when he didn't get his head in front in his first few runs. Even though he looks quite a strong individual he was still a bit of a raw horse. We gelded him over the winter and he came back at Nottingham this year and won well. Danny Tudhope gave him a great ride and he was always going to improve for that run. I could see him being a nice fun horse who will progress through the ranks.

He got stuck in ground on his debut at Hamilton in September when we thought he was going to run a big race and he got off the mark at Wolverhampton. We gelded him afterwards as he wasn't quite concentrating on the job and just running around a bit. He is a nice horse who should improve and we will have to look for another novice for him before he gets a handicap mark but he is certainly going to get better as the season goes on.

He ran well on his debut at Doncaster and I thought he ran an exceptional race after showing signs of inexperience. He was backward last year, and we will try and find a race for him soon and we could possibly drop down to six furlongs. He is a horse well worth looking forward to through the year.

He made a winning debut at Ayr last year and followed up under a penalty at York and unfortunately it didn't quite happen for him in the Gimcrack but at that point, because he was a breeze-up horse, he had two sharp runs and probably just had enough. He was gelded over the winter and it was a terrific run up at Doncaster where he showed a great attitude and battled on well to win. He will come on a lot for that run, and he would be one of those for the big three-year-old sprint handicaps.

He was a bit gross last year and he was gelded after one run but he came back and had definitely strengthened up and was more the finished article. Kevin Stott gave him a great ride to win at Beverley the other day but to be fair to the horse I think he was only just doing enough and seemed to be pricking his ear in front. He's by Hot Streak and I would say with his size and his pedigree he would enjoy a bit of juice in the ground, and he is open to a bit more improvement.

She is shaping as though she is going to want seven furlongs or a mile but over the winter she strengthened up and got a lot sharper. We dropped her down to six from seven furlongs last time when she had a handicap mark, and she ran behind Bergerac that day. She will be winning raced and is definitely better than her current mark suggests. There is a race at Nottingham coming up for three-year-old fillies and it would be no surprise to see her get her head in front and go on from there.

Obviously we know his family very well and he did well as a two-year-old but he was always going to do well for a winter on his back. He was very unlucky at Pontefract where he got no sort of run and maybe the ground was just a bit too soft for him at Chester. They went hard early doors, and he was conceding 7lb to the winner. He is horse that could be set up for these big three-year-old handicaps. There was a suggestion last year that he might get seven furlongs too.

He was a home bred sent to us by the owners who are based in Australia and it was a fantastic debut performance at Beverley. I really liked his attitude and Kevin Stott remarked how the horse just took him there and once he gave him a squeeze, he put his head down nicely and was very professional. He is another who will get further in time and is worth a step up in grade. There are plenty of races coming up for this type of two-year-old and potentially he could make up into an Ascot type.

She ran a terrific race on her debut where she finished fifth and was just a little bit green. We always thought that five furlongs was a bit sharp for her, but she came to hand so early we had to run her to gain some experience. We thought Beverley would suit her and the stiff five furlongs there really helped her out and she won well. She has a likeable attitude, and we will probably wait for six furlong races now and she enjoys a bit of juice in the ground. She is certainly going the right way.

He ran a great race on his debut in the Brocklesby and possibly it came a bit too sharp for him after that at Southwell. We gave him a break and he has just come back into training and we will find a novice for him when he is ready, and he could even step up to six furlongs.

He really thrived two weeks before he ran, and he got quite colty in the prelims at Thirsk which was a bit of a surprise as he is such a quiet horse at home. He has a really likeable attitude and when Kevin asked him to go and win his race, he really stuck his head down. He will definitely get six furlongs and is a horse we will be stepping up in grade now. There are plenty of options coming up for him, but he could potentially be a Royal Ascot two-year-old.

He was gelded straight after he ran at Pontefract and was a bit of boy and had shown enough at home to suggest he was better than that. We will see how he is, but he is an important horse to be winning if he is carrying such a name. He will be winning but you will probably be looking at about six weeks with him.
