Satish Seemar Stable Tour
18 Jan 2021

Satish Seemar was champion trainer in the UAE last year and is well fancied to repeat the feat although as things stand it has been a steady rather than spectacular start to the campaign.

A treble last Saturday, could well open the floodgates in time for the Carnival, and his assistant, Bhupat Seemar, talks Stephen Molyneux of attheraces.com through a strong team assembled for the next seven weeks.

We almost lost him to racing in Russia but is still with us. Has terrible feet nowadays so will need managing but we hope to have him ready for the Firebreak (over 1m). If not, that race then the next mile race and we will be doing well to get a couple of runs into him this season. He is nine now but does show all his old sparkle we just need to manage him.

You can gallop him and gallop him, and he will still look as though he will need the race! That was the case in the Garhoud Sprint on his return (when third to Important Mission) and we expect him to improve a lot for that run. A real star for us last season winning twice at the Carnival and hopefully he will put it up to them in the Dubawi Stakes on Thursday.

We will look to get his head back in front in the Jebel Ali Mile, not that it is a soft option, but we have several for the Maktoum Challenge already. Made a perfectly satisfactory return in the Creek Mile and we can come back to Meydan after Friday.

Is a bit tricky and no doubt has cost himself a chance of winning at the start, particularly last time. Is talented, however, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go well in the 1400m dirt handicap on the opening night. As with most horses who arrive from the States, he took a while to settle but hopefully we have him in a good place now.

A solid sort and good to see him get his head in front on his return and wasn’t disgraced next time. That probably told us he isn’t quite good enough for the Dubawi Stakes so will go for the handicaps instead, plus his owner will have Leading Spirit in there anyway.

A shrewd purchase from the Touch Gold Racing team and ran a good race when sixth in the Mahab Al Shimaal on his only start for us last season. Will probably want 7f ideally, but we will start him off in the Dubawi Stakes with William Buick riding and then we can step him up. He missed his intended return but hopefully runs well on Thursday.

Is a completely different horse this year and has been working very well and we can’t wait to get him started in the first round of the Maktoum Challenge. Even his two starts last season were perfectly creditable behind Benbatl and Matterhorn but you will see a different beast this time around is already a triple Group 1-winner in South America.

New to us having come from Doug Watson and Is rocketing at home and looks a very exciting horse in the morning. Has probably had quite a tough time of things coming and going from America over the last couple of years but has had a nice break now and is raring to go. His rating of 101 suggests he has a bit to do but was 109 and a Grade 3 winner in the States so hopefully we can get him back to that level.

Nice new addition to the team (from Hugo Palmer) and we had thought about getting him ready for the first round of the Maktoum Challenge but have decided to wait until the second round. The longer trip will suit him better there and then we can decide whether we move on to the turf or stick with dirt. He is by Dansili and his dam Mahbooba won the UAE 1000 Guineas on tapeta so the dirt will be a question mark.

Unfortunately missed his prep in the Creek Mile but he’s doing very well and had a gallop at Meydan the other day. He is another one for the first round of the Maktoum Challenge Round 1 and we are looking forward to getting him going. It sounded like it was a bit of a rush for Doug Watson to get him to the track twice last season so is a nice new horse for us, again another one that will have taken time to get used to the place coming from America.

It was always the plan to start him off in the Dubawi and he is fresh and well. I think he is bigger than last year so hopefully better as well but will probably need to be if he is to win first-time out. Whilst we have him in great form, he will be conceding that fitness edge to all of his rivals on Thursday which is obviously a big thig on the dirt. His programme will naturally be all the big sprints.

We retain plenty of faith in him and things clearly haven’t gone his way since he made a winning reappearance. He does need to prove he isn’t just a one trick pony in going from the front but his first target at the Carnival will be over 1400m on the opening night.

Will form part of our Dubawi Stakes team although will have a bit to find on ratings. Solid and likeable sprinter who was close up in a G3 last season and just needed his return. His run on Thursday will tell us where to go and we always have the option of the Jebel Ali Sprint (third in the race last year).

Started off on turf last week and we were very pleased with his debut for us as he was always going to need the run. That was 7f and he will be up in trip next and probably run in a handicap during the second week.

Hasn’t grown an inch since last year but proved himself the best of his generation in winning the Al Bastakiya on what was just his third outing. William Buick will hopefully ride him in the first round of the Maktoum Challenge but will probably be better further down the line but it will be a good test to see how good the first two from that race last year where as we also train Tuz who was second.

We are behind with him no doubt as he stepped on a stone and missed a couple of weeks so we are probably looking at the Firebreak before we can get him going. No one knew too much about him having won two races in Russia by 38 and a half lengths but obviously looked pretty good when second in the Al Bastakiya. Looks like he will be a miler.

Looks the best of our three-year-old’s and I would say is as talented as Emblem Storm was who won the Al Bastakiya last year. Has had sore shins though and was too green when third behind Meshakel last week. He was given a rating on the back of that so gives us options and I think we will see a much-improved horse on his second start.

Surprised us a bit the other day in the Dubai Trophy (over 1200m on turf) but had been working well at home although with a rating of 68 certainly nobody expected him to win. He will now stick to all those three-year-old turf races.
