Chris Gordon Stable Tour
04 Dec 2020

Chris Gordon equalled his personal best tally when notching 30 winners in 2019-20 and the signs are that the Morestead trainer will sail past that total this time around.

Gordon has already notched up 16 winners from only 89 runners and a healthy strike rate of 18% and with the quality of horse in the 54 box yard in Hampshire on the up too there should be plenty of fun days for his owners with a trainer who instinctively makes racing fun.

Chris said: "We didn't run much through the summer and out first winner was at the beginning of October. We have got 16 in the bag already and we are not the biggest of yards but the horses have been doing really well and long may it last.

Chris kindly spoke to Tony Elves of about those he hopes will continue to prosper under his care.

Older Horses
Highway One O One
High Accord
8 br g Stowaway - High Accord
Winner of six of his 25 starts and currently rated 135 over fences and 132 over hurdles. Finished unplaced, beaten 69 lengths, to Jacamar in a handicap hurdle at Aintree (2m 4f) in October over a mark of 135.
He has had wind operation called a tie forward and hopefully it works. He has been disappointing in both of his runs this year but hopefully can regain his best form.
Baddesley Knight
Grangeclare Rhythm
7 b g Doyen - Grangeclare Rhythm
Winner of three of his 11 starts and currently rated 138 over fences and 131 over hurdles. Finished sixth, beaten 27 lengths, to Vorashann in a handicap hurdle at Fontwell (2m 1 1/2f) on his reappearance in October off a mark of 132.
He might go to Doncaster next week, He looked a very nice horse and won his bumper, won his novice and won his chase at Wincanton last year and the form was looking pretty strong. We took him to Doncaster and bumped into a nice horse of Dan Skelton's (Maire Banrigh) and we had a bit of a bleed whilst doing it. We gave him a run over hurdles, and he did have a little bleed again. We are trying to get him back on track and he is a very nice horse who works well at home without bleeding and let's hope we can get him back on the racetrack without doing that.
Commanche Red
Auntie Bob
7 ch g Mahler - Auntie Bob
Winner of four of his 15 starts and currently rated 145 over fences. Finished last of four, beaten 40 lengths, to Master Tommytucker in a Graduation Chase at Haydock (2m 5 1/2f) in November.
We have lost him a wee bit this year as he has previously been a progressive horse every season. We went to Ascot first time out and Tom (Cannon) said he didn't want to line up and he had lost the race going down to the first fence. We then ran in a Graduation at Haydock the other day and Paddy (Brennan) gave him a little pop round and he just lost it. He will go for another Graduation Chase over two miles and five at Ascot on December 19 and see if we can get him back on track. He is a very healthy horse at home and fingers crossed we can get him back on track.
Mellow Ben
7 b g Beneficial - Mellowthemoonlight
Winner of four of his 29 starts and currently rated 135 over fences. Finished creditable third, beaten four and a half lengths, to Cap Du Nord in the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Handicap Chase at Newbury (2m 6 1/2f) last Saturday off a mark of 132.
He was back on track at Newbury the other day and he looked the winner three from home and a slightly better handicapped horse beat him and then Tom (Cannon) came and did me on the line for second on Canelo. He has gone up 3lb for that run which will make it harder next time, but he will probably run at Kempton on Sunday December 27 there is quite a valuable three-mile handicap chase on that day.
Go Whatever
And Whatever Else
Gold Well
6 b g Gold Well - And Whatever Else
Winner of two of his 6 starts and currently rated 124 over fences. Finished fourth, beaten 14 lengths, to Demachine in a novices’ handicap chase on his reappearance at Ascot (3m) in November off a mark of 125.
He is a grand old horse, slow as a boat, but stays all day and wants it bottomless. He was progressive last year over hurdles and has only had one run over fences this year but jumped like a buck and ran well enough. Josh (Moore) came back and said it wasn't soft enough for him. I have put in at Chepstow on Sunday, December 27 which is an open novice over two miles seven. I am hoping that if we get proper Chepstow winter ground that he would be fine, or he could go for the Mandarin Chase at Newbury on December 29.
On The Slopes
6 b g Librettist - Dalriath
Winner of three of his 16 starts and currently rated 140 over fences. Finished fifth, beaten 16 lengths, to Magic Saint, on his latest start at Cheltenham (2m) in November off a mark of 142.
He has been a tad disappointing for us this season. He was very progressive last year and first time out he got tired between the second last and the last and ran as though he needed it really. I was very disappointed with him second time back and his jockey thought he heard a noise and we took him off to Ben Brain who gave him a wind op two days later. He has been cauterised, lasered and hobdayed so you will hopefully see him back in February time
Only Money
Kings Diva
6 ch g Getaway - Kings Diva
Winner of one of his 7 starts and currently rated 104 over hurdles. Finished fifth, beaten 22 lengths, to Cadzand in a novices’ hurdle at Warwick (2m) latest start in November.
He has a mark of 104 and is going to be a better ground horse. We are probably going to put him away until the spring and go novice handicap chasing.
Shut The Box
Bond Holder
6 ch g Doyen - Bond Holder
Winner of one of his 12 starts and currently rated 114 over fences and hurdles. Finished third, beaten four and a half lengths, to Tamaroc Du Mathan in a novices' handicap chase at Wincanton (1m 7 1/2f) off a mark of 115 on his latest start in November.
We lost him a wee bit last season, but he came back with a good strong run at Fontwell and then ran in his first chase at Wincanton and finished third in a decent race. He looks like he wants a bit more of a trip and he is in at Doncaster on December 11 in a two-mile three furlong 0-120 handicap chase.
Top Man
Get In There
6 b g Milan - Get In There
Winner of two of his 7 starts and currently rated 124 over fences. Made a winning reappearance when beating Carrick Roads ten lengths in a novices' handicap chase at Fontwell (2m 3 1/2f) in October.
He runs at Sandown on Friday and I was pleased to go and see him win his first chase at Fontwell and won it nicely. He went up for that and he goes to Sandown and we will find out more about him. Fingers crossed for another good run.
Annual Invictus
Shantou Rose
5 b g Mahler - Shantou Rose
Winner of one of his 4 starts and currently rated 127. Off the mark in novices’ hurdle at Lingfield (2m) last week when scoring by six lengths from The Mick Preston.
He won his point-to-point in Ireland and we bought him from the Monbeg boys. He had a couple of runs last year and was second in a bumper and fifth at Fontwell and was still weak enough. He did well with a summer off and came back with a real good run at Ascot and just got beat by a horse of Nicky Henderson’s and then did the job well down at Lingfield in proper Lingfield heavy ground which is pretty extreme. He did jump well and all being well he will go to Fontwell next for another little novice. We will see how we go but he is a nice horse for the future.
Blame The Game
Lucy Walters
5 b g Darsi - Lucy Walters
Winner of one of his 2 starts. Off the mark with a neck success from Linelee King in a novice event at Plumpton (2m 4 1/2f) in November.
He came from the Doyle's and was fourth in his point-to-point. He is a full brother to Spiritofthegames and came out first time and ran a really nice race at Fontwell and then backed that run up when winning a novice hurdle at Plumpton. He has been given a rating of 115 and he will go to Ascot on December 19 for a novice handicap hurdle over two miles for horse rated 0-120.
Highway One O Two
Supreme Dreamer
5 b g Shirocco - Supreme Dreamer
Winner of three of his 9 starts and currently rated 146 over hurdles and fences. Has failed to complete in two starts over fences this term and unseated rider at the eighth at Carlisle (2m) in November.
He was a lovely horse last year and progressed all the way and he has come out this season and always wanted to go chasing with him. He has failed to complete in his two chases and took a soft fall when tiring in that very soft ground at Ffos Las and then unseated his rider at Carlisle four from home after jumping well until then. His chase campaign hasn't gone great for no fault of his own and by the time the next runs comes along we are going to be Christmas/New Year and I might keep him a novice for next year. I have put him in the big hurdle at Ascot on December 19. We will have a look at that and see how we go handicap hurdling.
Lord Baddesley
Tropical Ocean
5 b g Doyen - Tropical Ocean
Winner of one of his 4 starts and currently rated 121 over hurdles. Scored by four and a half lengths from Fearless in a novice hurdle at Fontwell (2m 1 1/2f0 in October and finished runner-up, beaten three and three quarter lengths, to Furkash in a similar event over that course and distance last month.
He is a very nice horse who came out and won over hurdles at Fontwell and then we went back there, and the ground had gone heavy for him. He struggled with that ground, but he was beaten by a very nice horse and we may look at a novice at Doncaster next. He is a lovely chaser for next season.
Mount Windsor
Mrs Bukay
Mountain High
5 br g Mountain High - Mrs Bukay
Winner of four of his 12 starts and currently rated 119 over hurdles. Has won both his handicap hurdles this season and scored by seven lengths from Gorham's Cove at Fakenham (2m) latest start in November off a mark of 112.
came out and won at Lingfield then followed up at Fakenham. He has got it together this year and he will go to either Taunton on December 10 or Cheltenham on the 11th. Whether he can defy his rise in the weights is up to him.
5 ch g Aizavoski - Snowlaw
Winner of two of his 3 starts. Made a winning debut over hurdles at Fakenham (2m) on Monday when scoring by two lengths from Lady Kk.
He has proved a little star for us. He just got beaten a short head in an AW bumper and then won a nice little bumper at Wincanton and then won an auction novice the other which we don't have many of over jumps. I didn't think the track at Fakenham particularly suited him, but he won it very well. I couldn't have asked anymore of him and it's onwards and upwards. I will just try and find another little race for him.
Press Your Luck
Merry Gladness
5 b g Doyen - Merry Gladness
Winner of two of his 3 starts and currently rated 130. Winner of both his novice hurdles this season scoring by two and three quarter lengths from Glajou at Newton Abbot (2m 1f) in October and following up with a length and a half success from Mocacreme at Uttoxeter (2m) in November.
He has won his two over hurdles this year and done very well. The jocks have said he wouldn't want it too soft. He's been a grand little horse and we'll give him a try in a grades race over a trip he wants.
Sandy Brook
Lovely Lolly
5 ch g Sandmason - Lovely Lolly
Finished fifth in an Irish point-to-point on his only start in January.
He is a nice horse who starts for us at Plumpton on Monday in the bumper. He would be a horse I would be very fond of.
Smurphy Enki
Creme Veloutee
Blue Bresil
5 b g Blue Bresil - Creme Veloutee
Winner of one of his 3 starts. Finished runner-up, beaten a neck, to Seelotmorebusiness on his hurdling debut at Chepstow (2m) last month.
He won his bumper very nicely at Wincanton last year and came out and ran nicely in a decent bumper at Cheltenham when finishing fourth and then went to Chepstow and ran Seemorebusiness to a neck. He goes to Plumpton on Monday and let's hope he can run a blinder there.
Straight Swap
5 b g Yeats - Alittlebitofheaven
No wins from 3 starts and currently rated 116 over hurdles. Best effort when runner-up, beaten five lengths, to Take Your Time in a novices’ hurdle at Lingfield (2m 3 1/2f) in November.
He has been progressive this year and he needs the mud and a trip. He is qualified for the EBF at the end of the season and it normally bottomless ground which will be a nice race to go for. He is a Pertemps on Friday and, fingers crossed he should run well.
Twominutes Turkish
Kilbarry Cliche
5 ch g Mahler - Kilbarry Cliche
Winner of one of his 4 starts and currently rated 122 over hurdles. Finished runner-up, beaten five and a half lengths, to Cadzand on his latest start in a novices’ hurdle at Warwick (2m) in November.
He came out and won his novice hurdle at Fakenham nicely and then we went to Warwick and it rained and rained hours before. He is a horse that would appreciate better ground and he has had a wind operation.
Brother Windsor
Mrs Bukay
4 b g Valirann - Mrs Bukay
Fourth in a bumper on the AW at Lingfield in November.
He has had just one run and ran ok in an AW bumper at Lingfield. He was bought cheaply for 6,000gns. We bought him as his half-brother Mount Windsor won two bumpers for us and has won twice over hurdles this season. We might not see him until the spring on better ground but hopefully he will trouble the judge at some stage on his return.
Sami Bear
4 b g Sulamani - Dalriath
Unplaced in an AW bumper at Lingfield in October.
He will be a nice little bumper horse - he had a run around in an AW bumper at Lingfield and he should be out in January. He should be a nice horse in the New Year, and he'll have two runs in bumpers and that will be it.
Storm Dennis
Lady Eile
4 b g Libertarian - Lady Eile
Sixth in a bumper at Ascot in November won by Wonderwall.
He ran well at Ascot the other day and was beaten only ten lengths when finishing sixth. He has had a real nice introduction and I think we will go to war in a little bumper somewhere next time and he should run well.
Annual Invictus
Winner at Lingfield last week and can continue to thrive on bottomless ground.
Highway One O One
Hasn't been seen to best effect over fences and return to hurdling can see him in a much better light.
Lord Baddesley
Nice sort who can continue to progress with experience.
Mellow Ben
Excellent third in the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Handicap Chase at Newbury and can win more races over fences.
Twominutes Turkish
Came up against a tartar in Cadzand at Warwick last time but there will be plenty of other days for him.
