Marcus Tregoning Stable Tour
24 Aug 2020

The season may have been truncated for race fans but one of the highlights for those privileged to have crossed paths with him has been the return to the big time for Marcus Tregoning.

The genial Whitsbury Manor trainer has nurtured Mohaather back to full powers after his stable star suffered a setback in his Classic year and the Showcasing colt delivered in no uncertain manner when quickening impressively to beat Queen Anne victor Circus Maximus three quarters of a length in the Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in July with the previously unbeaten Irish 2000 Guineas winner Siskin and the 2000 Guineas winner Kameko in his wake.

Tregoning said: "It’s been a difficult year for everbody, Owners, trainer, jockeys and all those people involved in racing but hopefully this time next year we will be back on the Racecourse properly and enjoying racing as we should.

"Mohaather has obviously been the icing on the cake so far and we were delighted with him victory in the Sussex Stakes as we have always had high hopes for him. Hopefully we can get him to Ascot for Champions Day again and the ground comes up good so he can show the electrifying turn of foot that he possesses."

Tregoning also appears to have an above average group of two-year-olds with Flying Childers-bound Perotto and the classy Alkumait amongst those to deliver in style so far and he kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about his hopes for his team for the remainder of the season.

Winner of four of his 13 starts and currently rated 94. Finished ninth, beaten four and a half lengths, to Acclaim The Nation at York (5 1/2f) last Wednesday off his current mark.
He ran at York last week and ran an ok race. He wants proper soft ground and probably six furlongs these days.

He ran very well the other day at Doncaster, and I was delighted with him. I think he is a progressive horse and I think he can make up into a decent horse. He comes from a very slow maturing family and he is lightly raced as he has had some problems in the past, but he came out of his race very well and I can’t wait for him to run again. We will try and place him where he can win and then go from there.

Winner of five of his 19 starts and currently rated 79. Finished sixth, beaten 12 lengths, to Vindicate last start at Wolverhampton (1m 4f) this month off a mark of 82.
He has been a bit disappointing this year and I think we have lost the thread with him a little bit. He is a good-looking horse who would make a good dual-purpose type. He has won five races and ran very well first time out this season and we have just got to get him back on track and, hopefully, we do.

Winner of four of his 9 starts and currently rated 98. Finished seventh, beaten five and three quarter lengths, to Gin Palace on his reappearance at Newmarket (1m) in June off his current mark.
He has an entry in the Cambridgeshire and he has had a few niggly problems which is why I couldn’t run him in the spring. He is in good form now and, hopefully, I have enough time to get him ready for the Cambridgeshire and I would think he would be in there off a decent weight.

Winner of five of his 8 starts and currently rated 123. Returned to winning form with an impressive three and three quarter success from San Donato in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot (1m) in July and bettered that effort when finishing strongly to score by three quarters of a length from Circus Maximus in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood (1m) at the end of that month.
I don’t think he will run until Champions Day at Ascot where he will run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Having had all this dry weather this summer I am hoping it isn’t going to be too wet at Ascot in October. It rather spoils Champions Day if the ground is too soft and we know he goes on soft ground and the family did but the thing about this horse is his speed. He finds plenty and it would be nice if it was good ground and as he showed in the Sussex where he made up two or three lengths in electrifying style. We know he is a very nice horse and we just hope we get the ground at Ascot

Winner of two of his 11 starts and currently rated 78. Returned to winning form in a handicap at Newbury (1m) in July when beating Kingston Kurrajong a short head off a mark of 75.
He is a progressive horse and, funnily enough, he is closely related to Ghalyoon. He is a good class mile handicapper and he might get a bit further, but he is very effective at a mile.

She is a very tough filly and there is not a lot of her, but she has a very good action. She ran at York on Friday, but she was never at home on the ground and that effort is best forgotten. She is a nice filly and hopefully she can improve enough to do well in the autumn.

Winner of one of his 6 starts and currently rated 71. Off the mark with a length and three quarter victory from Treaty Of Dingle in a handicap at Lingfield (1m) in June off a mark of 65. Finished fourth, beaten six and a quarter lengths, to Mark of Gold at Bath (1m 2f) last week off his current mark.
He ran at Bath last week and finished fourth and he just doesn’t seem to get the picture together at the moment. He has ability and we have just got to find the key and whether it is a mile or a bit further we will have to see. At the moment I would say a mile suits him better but let’s see what he does in his next two or three starts. Let’s see if we can get him back on track.

He has shown a decent level of form and I am very pleased with him. I expected him to win at Goodwood and the race looks ok. I am very happy with him and he was a possibility for the Gimcrack, but he unfortunately sprained his hock. He is going to have a little bit of a break and I expect him to run in about three weeks.

Sandown (5f) this month when beating Onaraggatip a length and three quarters off a mark of 78 and ran a blinder at York (6f) on Wednesday off his current mark when runner-up, beaten a neck to Cairn Island.
He is a decent two-year-old this. He is not overbig but has an amazing heart and is as tough as they come. Our plan is to possibly to go for the Flying Childers at Doncaster in three weeks’ time he is bound to go up in the weights for his performance at York last week and he is coming out of handicaps. He probably ran into one, but I think he still would have won if the ground had been quicker. Five furlongs is no problem and he is suited by a decent pace which you should get in those better races.

He is quite a big horse and he might just have bumped into one when second at Newbury last time. I am sure he will win this year and he is a horse I like quite a lot. He might be a fraction weak, but he will get stronger fairly quickly and should win for us.

Minor setback ruled him out of the Gimcrack, but the impressive Goodwood scorer can soon add to his tally.

Sow burner who can find more success over seven furlongs and a mile as the season progresses.

Staked a strong claim to be Champion Miler when beating some stellar opposition in the Sussex Stakes and could well prove the point in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes granted decent ground.

Probably ran into one when touched off in a nursery at York last week and this tough cookie can so get back on the scoresheet.

Made his belated reappearance at Newmarket in June and could well add to his score before bidding for Cambridgeshire glory.
