William Knight Stable Tour
13 Jul 2020

William Knight has made the start in his new surroundings at Rathmoy Stables in Newmarket’s Hamilton Road that he could of only have dreamed off with nine wins under his belt already from only 48 runners and a pound level stake profit of £137.20 on all his runners.

Knight only moved into Newmarket at the end of April after enjoying significant from Angmering Park in Sussex and his now state of the art stables is bearing the results for his hard-working trainer.

The flagbearer has been the progressive Sir Busker who beat subsequent Royal Hunt Cup winner Dark Vision on his reappearance at Newcastle at the beginning of June and advertised that horse’s chance when landing the consolation Silver Hunt Cup earlier in the afternoon at Royal Ascot behind closed doors.

Sir Busker was narrowly denied the hat trick by Buckingham Palace Handicap winner Motakhayyel in the Bunbury Cup over a, perhaps, inadequate seven furlongs at Newmarket on Saturday but there was also rich reward for Knight at the July Festival when Progressive Rating landed the six-furlong handicap on Friday at odds of 40-1.

The change of scenery has brought a new lease of life to some of Knight’s old handicappers and William kindly spoke to Tony Elves of about his hopes for the season.

Older Horses
Noble Gift
Noble Penny
Cadeaux Genereux
10 ch g Cadeaux Genereux - Noble Penny
Winner of nine of his 68 starts and currently rated 74. Better effort when third, beaten a length and three quarters to Olympic Conqueror at Kempton (1m 2f) in June off a mark of 75.
He is an old stalwart of the yard and he is not getting any younger and it’s getting harder to win race with him, but he always runs solids races. He is his own worst enemy and doesn’t drop much down the too much weights. He is in at Kempton on Monday and hopefully we will find a race for him.
9 b g Gentlewave - Shawhill
Winner of six of his 61 starts and currently rated 67. Finished third, beaten two and a half lengths, to Wadacre Galoubet in a handicap at Beverley (2m) in June off a mark of 68.
He is an old handicapper who has come down the weights now and should be winning sooner rather than later. He is a likeable rogue and if he’s on a going day then he is handicapped to win. He is in at Kempton on Monday and a mile and six to two miles is ideal for him.
Author's Dream
Spring Dream
7 gr g Authorized - Spring Dream
Winner of five of his 25 starts and currently rated 81. Gained his last success when scoring by half a length from Young Merlin in a handicap at Sandown (1m 6f) in June off a mark of 76.
He won nicely at Sandown and it was a slowly run race at Newcastle next time which probably didn’t suit him. He is going to run in the two mile and a half mile race at Goodwood and get him in off a low weight. He has had a new lease of life since moving up to Newmarket.
Kingston Kurrajong
Kingston Acacia
7 b g Authorized - Kingston Acacia
Winner of six of his 50 starts and currently rated 77. Promising effort when fifth, beaten four and a half lengths, to Crystal Casque on his reappearance at Kempton (1m) in June but last of eight, beaten eight and a quarter lengths, to Secret Return at Bath (1m) on Friday night.
He has now dropped down the weights and ran a promising race at Kempton, but the ground was no good for him at Bath on Friday and I am sure he needs to hear his feet rattle. You can draw a line through that run, and he looks on a winnable mark and hopefully he can pick up a couple of races this season.
Unit of Assessment
Before The Storm
Dragon Pulse
6 b g Dragon Pulse - Before The Storm
Winner of six of his 31 starts and currently rated 79. Returned to winning form when beating Mordred a nose at Kempton (1m 3f) in June off a mark of 77.
He is probably not the soundest of horses, but he tries very hard. He won at Kempton last time and he goes back there today. I think of 79 he can still be very competitive.
Champs Elysees
5 b g Champs Elysees - Kibara
Winner of six of 28 starts and currently rated 82. Better effort when third, beaten four and half lengths, to Oleg in a handicap at Pontefract (2m 1f) in June off a mark of 83.
I probably just didn’t have him 100 per the other day – he had a few niggles running into that race at Haydock, but it was a prep race in the hope that he gets into the staying race at Goodwood. That is the plan to go for the two and a half mile handicap – he got caught on the line last year and the hope is to go one better. He is a bit of a thinking horse and he likes those quirky tracks so Goodwood suits him well.
Gold Arch
4 b g Archipenko - Goldrenched
Winner of four of his 12 starts and currently rated 80. Made a winning start for stable when hacking up by seven and a half lengths, to Elhafei at Wolverhampton (1m 6f) in June off a mark of 70.
He was in training with David Lanigan last year and we haven’t got to the bottom of him yet. He will go for the two-mile (0-90) handicap at Ascot this month. He will be suited by a flatter track as he was just caught out at Chepstow last time where they went quickly into the bend and he just got caught too far out of his ground under his penalty for his Wolverhampton win
Shifting Gold
Elusive Gold
Fast Company
4 b f Fast Company - Elusive Gold
Winner of three of her 16 starts and currently rated 70. Made a winning reappearance at Kempton (1m 4f) in June when scoring by three quarters of a length from Sandy Steve off a mark of 66.
She has improved from three to four and she is a bit stronger now. They didn’t go quick enough for her the other day at Lingfield and she still looks of a winnable mark. Hopefully we can find another couple of handicaps for her.
Sir Busker
Street Kitty
Sir Prancealot
4 b g Sir Prancealot - Street Kitty
Winner of five of his 17 starts and currently rated 102. Made a winning reappearance at Newcastle (1m) in June when beating subsequent Royal Hunt Cup winner Dark Vision a head off a mark of 92 and followed up in the Silver Hunt Cup with a three quarter length victory from Salayel off a mark of 94. Lost no caste in defeat when failing by only three quarters of a length behind Motakhayyel in the Bunbury Cup off a mark of 102.
He has really strengthened from three to four and that has been shown in his three races this year. He ran another cracker in the Bunbury Cup when runner-up to Motakhayyel even though he threw it away by hanging across the track. Unfortunately, Oisin (Murphy) had no other option but to take the outside run and he is probably a better horse coming through horses. We will probably go for the big mile handicap at Goodwood.
Three Year Olds
French Minstrel
3 b c Gutaifan – C’Est Ma Souer
He is an unraced horse who has come to me from David (Lanigan) and we haven’t done any really fast work with him but he’s a good-looking horse. There’s no reason he can’t be winning races.
Goodwood Rebel
Our Valkyrie
Dandy Man
3 b g Dandy Man - Our Valkyrie
No wins from 9 starts and currently rated 66. Best effort this term when third, beaten three and three quarter lengths, to Queen of Silca at Haydock (1m) in June off a mark of 67.
He is a frustrating horse as he works very well at home and hasn’t been able to reproduce that on the racecourse. It was a solid run at Haydock on his penultimate effort and I am still trying to find the key to him. Once we find the key, he will certainly win races.”
Henley Park
Sunny Afternoon
Paco Boy
3 ch g Paco Boy - Sunny Afternoon
Unplaced, beaten 18 ½ lengths, to Stunning Beauty on his debut in a novice event at Newmarket (1m) on Saturday.
He made his debut at Newmarket on Saturday and is a horse who should be seen in a better light once he is sent handicapping. There may be a small race in him.
Royal Ivy
3 b f Equiano - Royal Ivy
No wins from 3 starts and currently rated 54. Last of 10, beaten 35 lengths, to Lottie Marie at Kempton (7f) in January.
She has had a little break and she will be back in about a month’s time. She is probably handicapped now to win, and she could find a couple of small races.
King Of The South
South Atlantic
3 b c Kingman - South Atlantic
No wins from 3 starts and currently rated 68. Finished third, beaten five and three quarter lengths, to Luncies at Lingfield (1m) in March when trained by David Lanigan.
He has had a little break and he will be out in the second half of the season. He’s been gelded and he is a nice sized horse who is handicapped to win races.
Liberty Flag
Noble Mission
3 b f Noble Mission - Liberty Flag
Winner of one of her 4 starts and currently rated 62. Off the mark on her handicap bow at Lingfield (1m) in June when beating Rock of Redmond a neck off a mark of 57.
She is a sweet filly who is off the right mark and I think could progress through the year. We also want to get her on the turf where she will probably want a bit of dig in the ground. She works nicely at home and, hopefully, she can continue to progress.
Mr Nutherputt
Right After Moyne
3 b g Camacho - Right After Moyne
No wins from 3 starts and currently rated 65. Finished fourth, beaten seven and a quarter lengths, to My Frankel in a maiden at Leicester (1m 2f) in June.
He rusn at Windsor today in his first handicap and I think the handicapper was a bit harsh giving him 65 but he’s strengthened up from two to three and there are, hopefully, a couple of races in him.
Pearl Beach
Western Pearl
3 b f Footstepsinthesand - Western Pearl
No wins from 6 starts and currently rated 55. Finished third, beaten two and a half lengths, to Pleasure Garden in a handicap at Leicester in June off her current mark.
She has run two solid races this year and is a big filly. I trained her mum who didn’t really come to herself until she was four. I think she is a mile and half filly who when she gets a bit of juice in the ground will be getting her head in front.
Progressive Rating
Foxtrot Alpha
Bated Breath
3 br c Bated Breath - Foxtrot Alpha
Winner of three of his 5 starts and currently rated 87. Made a winning reappearance at Newmarket (6f) last Thursday when scoring by half a length from Exceptional.
We have always held him in high regard, and he won on his return at Newmarket last Thursday. We will see what the handicapper does but may be the Stewards’ Cup could be an option for him next. There should be tons of improvement in him as I thought he would need the run last week.
Quarry Bay
Sandbox Two
3 b g Ivawood - Sandbox Two
No wins from 3 starts and currently rated 55. Finished fourth, beaten 38 lengths, to Wise Glory in a maiden at Leicester (1m 2f) in June.
He is now handicapped but he doesn’t show me a lot at home. Hopefully, there’s a small race in him somewhere.
Say It's Me
Say No Now
3 b f Shamardal - Say No Now
Well beaten in two starts at Newmarket (1m) in June and Yarmouth (1m 2f) in July.
She has run twice now, and I just feel she is putting the handbrake on a bit in her races. We will probably run her in some headgear next time and see if that brings any improvement out of her.
Selsey Sizzler
3 b g Nathaniel - Heho
No wins from 7 starts and currently rated 59. Finished fifth, beaten 6 lengths, to Revolver off a mark of 60 on his latest start at Doncaster (1m 6 1/2f) in June.
We have been trying to get him to stay a mile and six/two miles and I just question whether he gets the trip. We are going to drop him back to a mile and a quarter/mile and a half. He is a lovely big three-year-old and he’s definitely off a winnable mark.
3 b c Showcasing - Crossmolina
No wins in 2 starts. Finished eighth, beaten 20 lengths, to Lord Campari on his debut for stable at Newbury (1m) in June.
He has recently been gelded and he has run twice. I think he will be better now he has been gelded as he had other ideas. Now, he is two stone lighter hopefully he will be seen to better effect.
Signal Twenty Nine
Beacon Lady
3 gr g Gregorian - Beacon Lady
Unplaced on his only start at Kempton (1m) in December.
I trained his mother who was very progressive and she was a very sweet three-year-old and got bigger and stronger at four and I think this lad will be similar to her. We will probably mind him this year, but he is a mile and a half horse in the making and has an engine there but is still quite raw.
Song at Twilight
3 b f Zoffany – Jasmine Blue
She is an unraced three-year-old filly who is close to starting her first piece of work. She is a good-looking filly with a nice bit of size about her and I think she might be ok this year.
Spanish Kiss
Lope De Vega
3 b c Lope De Vega - Kissable
No wins from 2 starts. Better effort at Chelmsford (1m) in November when fourth, beaten a length and a half, to Stepney Causeway.
He ran a couple of time last year and is a nice colt by Lope De Vega. He had a setback earlier on this year but is now very close to doing a piece of work. He goes well and he could be an interesting prospect in the second half of the season.
With Promise
Magical Crown
3 b c Shamardal - Magical Crown
Winner on his debut at Yarmouth (1m) last August for David Lanigan when beating Zafeer three quarters of a length and having his first race since when sixth, beaten seven and a half lengths, to Tinker Toy in a novice at Salisbury (7f) on Saturday night.
He won on his debut at Yarmouth and we have to mind him as he hasn’t got the best of front legs. He just got tired, which I thought he would, at Salisbury on Saturday night and he will come on a lot for that. Hopefully, we will get a realistic mark and we can go from there.
Author's Dream
One of those rejuvenated since trainer switched to Newmarket and can find further gains.
Gold Arch
Still has plenty of potential for further spoils in truly run staying handicaps.
King Of The South
Has had the required runs for a handicap mark and look one to keep an eye on now he has been gelded.
Looks to sort to progress further now she has put her head in front.
Progressive Rating
Considered in need of the run when landing a competitive sprint handicap at Newmarket last Friday and could well progress much high up the ladder.
Sir Busker
Possesses some of the strongest handicap form on offer and no reason why he can’t continue to prosper.
