Mike Cattermole's Flat horses to follow
28 May 2020

==STARTHTML==

The list below contains some familiar names and some perhaps not so well known. But all of them are expected to go out there and win races!

I’ve tried to create a balanced list, whether colt or filly, whether sprinter, miler or middle-distance performer.

I’ve included a couple for both the Guineas, two Derby hopefuls, as well as a potentially high-class sprinter and an exciting dual-purpose horse who could be very well handicapped.

Then there’s three older horses who should be contesting some of the best races in the calendar for their sex, two over middle distances, one at around a mile.

Finally, there’s one who is a future maiden winner waiting to happen, with further successes hopefully down the line. I am sure you can work out which one is which! ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Could not have been more impressive on his debut over ten furlongs at Newmarket last October when he never came off the bridle. Has a middle-distance pedigree (by Camelot) and a run out in a Classic trial will tell us more and see whether he is up to a tilt at the Derby or St Leger. Could be the horse his trainer has been waiting for. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Showed plenty of promise in two starts as a juvenile and travelled like a good horse when beaten narrowly at Kempton in the second of them. The Queen’s New Approach colt looks certain to take a big step forward when upped in trip this year (10f or further) and looks a ready-made maiden winner before going on to much better things. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==The sprinting division, especially at six furlongs, is looking open following the retirement of the likes of Blue Point and Soldiers Call. Could this son of the stable’s former sprint champion Lethal Force be the one to capitalise? Showed plenty of pace to run a close second in the Middle Park and a great attitude to see off Threat in the Richmond Stakes.

The Commonwealth Cup looks an obvious early target. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Probably a not very original choice but the progress of this desperately unlucky Triumph Hurdle loser will be eagerly awaited this summer as he returns to the Flat.

Last summer, he ran away with handicaps at both Brighton and Sandown (class 3) before going on his winning spree over timber. Now rated 158 in that sphere, Gary Moore must be itching to get him out off his current mark of 88 and has mentioned the Ebor as a longer-term target. Just one thing though, he has yet to race on fast ground, although soft certainly seems to suit him well. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Took the breath away when coasting home by eight lengths in his Newmarket maiden but the son of Kingman surprisingly failed to build on it when only fifth to another nice prospect in Kameko in the Vertem Futurity at Newcastle. May have had his excuses and is surely worth another chance as he remains highly regarded, is a May foal and could still turn out to be high-class. Heads for the 2,000 Guineas. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Didn’t race at two and lost her action and was last in the 2019 Oaks but still ended the season with much promise. With just five races in her career, looks certain to be able to build on her already smart form.

Last seen finishing a creditable fourth (not the best of runs) in the Sun Chariot, she is reported to have done very well and should make her presence felt in the top races for fillies this year at around a mile and a quarter or even a touch further. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Kept his unbeaten record by outclassing his rivals in the St Leger and all of the top middle-distance contests will no doubt be on his agenda. We don’t know how good the son of Frankel is and will he be on a collision course with the same owner’s Enable? John Gosden will be shuffling his power pack yet again! ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==Winner of both of his starts at two, I just loved his attitude on the second of them, when fighting back to pip the smart Al Suhail in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes over a mile at Newmarket. By New Approach out of a Yorkshire Oaks winner, middle distances will be the making of him. Like Brentford Hope, the trials will be most revealing. ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==To be honest, I thought she was just decent until her stunning win in what looked a good Cheveley Park. She really could not have won it with more authority – in a very similar time to Earthlight in the Middle Park - and the way she finished that day suggested that a mile is only going to suit her even more. Being a May foal, you would hope there is plenty more to come from that angle, too, and she is in very good hands. Irish Guineas or Newmarket again? ==ENDHTML==

==STARTHTML==I loved the turn of foot that he showed when winning the Horris Hill as a two-year-old. He was back at Newbury when he reappeared to take the Greenham Stakes but a crack at the Guineas had to be aborted after a setback which kept him away for six months.

He faced a stiff task on his return but wasn’t disgraced in the QEII and there are still good races to be won with this unexposed son of Showcasing, at either seven furlongs or a mile. ==ENDHTML==
