Aidan O'Brien Stable Tour
14 Aug 2019

Aidan O’Brien has landed nine Group 1 contests so far this season, including the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris, and here he updates Kevin Blake of attheraces.com with big-race targets for his stable stars who will be representing him at the major meetings throughout the remainder of the season.

Rated 119, he won the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp and the St Leger at Doncaster last year. He finished a close second in the Coronation Cup at Epsom on his most recent start.
He has had a break since his last run and is on the way back. He’ll go away to work shortly. He’ll be one that could go straight to the Irish St Leger without a run between now and then.

Rated 123, she won the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot in October and the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in May.
We decided to give her a break after her last run and she’s just ready to start back working next week with a view to getting her to the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown next month. The likes of Found and others had a break like that in the middle of the season. Enable is obviously a superstar and Magical has run her close a couple of times. The two of them are very good fillies and from a racing perspective, it’s good to have them there to take each other on.

Rated 116, she won the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh prior to finishing second in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. She disappointed on her most recent outing in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.
She is very fresh again after Goodwood and seems in great form now. Goodwood was a little bit of a non-event for her. The lads got caught up in a bit of duel early on and it just didn’t work out for her after that. We are looking towards the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend with her.

Rated 117, he won the Beresford Stakes at Naas last season and showed improvement to win the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp last time.
Japan is coming along lovely. We’ve been very happy with his last couple of runs and we’ve been delighted with him since his last run. He’s ready to go again and the thought is that we might drop him in trip for the Juddmonte International at York and then hopefully aim towards the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. We’ve never put any real pressure on him, so he’s been developing steadily both mentally and physically

Rated 118, he won the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster in October and the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May.
The Irish 2,000 Guineas just didn’t work out for him and he didn’t seem to be the same horse that he was at Newmarket. He had a good break after that and he’s nearly ready to run again. He might go away to work this weekend and that should keep him on track to make his return in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. We are looking forward to seeing how he gets on at a mile-and-a-quarter, but whatever happens, we wouldn’t be afraid to bring him back to a mile after that.

Rated 110, she won the Salsabil Stakes at Navan in April and ran her best race this season when a neck second in the Oaks at Epsom.
We think she’s better than what she has shown on the track so far. Whether she proves that this year or next year, only time will tell, but she is ready to run again now. We might try a couple of different things with her. We are considering putting a hood on her, as she is inclined to race one gear higher than we’d like her to and that seems to catching her out at the end of her races. We're aiming her towards Irish Champions Weekend and the Blandford Stakes might be the race for her.

Rated 117, he won a maiden at Tipperary and the Chester Vase in great style prior to finishing a close fifth in the Derby.
He’s had a break and we’re very happy with him. The plan is to run him in the Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh this Friday and we’ll looking to run in either the Irish Champion Stakes or the Prix Niel after that. He’ll improve on whatever he does on Friday, but I think he’s in a lovely place both mentally and physically at the minute. He’s had his break and isn’t feeling any stress. Sometimes they can get a bit anxious if they don’t get a break between running in the Classics and taking on the older horses, but he’s had it and we’re looking forward to him.

Rated 122, he was unbeaten in three starts as a juvenile including the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and made a successful return to sprinting when winning the July Cup at Newmarket last time.
Everyone was really happy with what he did in the July Cup at Newmarket. He was a very fast two-year-old, winning all four of his races in the space of six weeks. He ran what I thought was an incredible race in the 2000 Guineas and we knew after his run in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, which was his first run back in sprints this year, that he was something very different. We were very happy with him going to Newmarket and we’ve been very happy with him since. He’s a big, powerful horse with a high cruising speed. He moves in first gear all the time. The plan is to drop him to five furlongs for the Nunthorpe Stakes at York next week and then look towards the Flying Five Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend. We are really looking forward to seeing him out again.

Built on his promising debut when winning a six-furlong maiden at the Curragh by eight lengths in May and followed up in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
We were delighted with Arizona in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. He’s had a little break since then and is ready to run again. We are looking at the Prix Morny at Deauville for him on Sunday. After that, we are looking forward to stepping him up to seven furlongs for the National Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend. There should be plenty more improvement in him and he’s a horse you’d have to be excited

Rated 108, he won a maiden at the Curragh in June and followed up by winning the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown by five lengths.
He’s a lovely horse. He made a promising debut and won his next two in good style. He’s an uncomplicated, straightforward horse. We’re looking forward to getting him out again. He’s a bit of a baby and I think we’ll take our time with him. We haven’t decided whether we’ll go up to a mile with him next time just yet, but he’s a big horse that will be better next year either way.

Rated 105, she has improved with each start to win a maiden at Leopardstown and follow up in impressive style in the Silver Flash Stakes back there last time.
She’s a lovely filly that is getting better with every run. She’s straightforward, she’s happy to make the running or get a lead, she travels and quickens well and her head goes down when you want her. Everything about her has always been very nice. She’s rangy and scopey too, so you’d have to be excited about her. She looks a good candidate for the Moyglare Stud Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend.

An unraced full-brother to Japan, he cost 3,400,000gns as a yearling.
He makes his debut at Gowran Park this evening. He doesn’t have a good draw and our horses are usually green first time, so at a track like Gowran I’d expect him to be extra green. We’d just be hoping for a nice run today. He’d be one you could see finishing third or fourth here, winning easily the next day and then hopefully going on to better things. He works like a very good horse. He could be anything.
