David Menuisier Stable Tour
19 Jun 2019

DAVID MENUISIER’S current form looks in complete contrast to that suffered by Racegoers at Ascot so far this week as the Pulborough trainer is in a red hot spell just now.

The past 14 days have seen him notch up seven winners from 12 runners on the domestic front and just for good measure Danceteria provided him with a Group 3 success at Longchamp.

Danceteria may well look to throw his hat into the ring in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on July 6 but his prayers have been answered with Migration gaining a coveted spot in Thursday's Britannia Handicap and currently heading the market at around 7-1.

David said: “Everything has fallen into place in the past few weeks and I couldn’t be happier. I am delighted Migration has made the cut for the Britannia and let’s hope our good luck continues.

Menuisier kindly spoke to Tony Elves of ATR about Migration on the eve of his biggest challenge and others that have been doing sterling work for him and his team.

Winner of six of his 24 starts and currently rated 114. Finished third, beaten six lengths, to Elarqam in a listed event at Goodwood (1m 2f) in May.
He always needs a couple of runs to get to race fitness and he is the same every year. He blew up when I ran him in the Gordon Richards at Sandown and then ran a really good race at Goodwood despite carrying a 5lb penalty. The form of the race is really good and I think he will come on a lot again for that race. The plan is to send him to France on June 30 and run him in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud over a mile and four. Long term my main target will remain the Canadian International.

Winner of six of his 19 starts and currently rated 84. Returned to winning form when scoring by two and a quarter lengths from Emenem at Windsor (1m 3 1/2f) this month off a mark of 80 and finished runner-up, beaten a length and a half, to Buckland Boy at Thirsk (1m 4f) on Monday under a 5lb penalty.
Dragons Voice has completely changed over the Winter and, although he was a miler in the past, he gave me the impression that he wanted to go a bit further. He won at Windsor last Monday over a mile and three and I think we will step him up in trip again. He ran well when second at Thirsk over a mile and four earlier this week which was another solid effort. I will probably step him up again later in the Summer and he wants the ground to be on the soft side of good or soft. I can’t really make any long term plans as he is so ground dependent.

Winner of one of his 5 starts and currently rated 70. Award race in the Stewards room after finishing a neck behind Spanish Star at Goodwood (6f) in May off a mark of 66.
He won at Goodwood last month and I was planning to run him again two weeks later but he unfortunately pulled a hamstring which will take three or four weeks to heal. I have nothing in mind as we need to give him time to recover and go again. I think he could still be an exciting Sprinter and he should be winning again in the next few weeks or months. He doesn’t seem to be ground dependent and he won on good to firm and I think he can prove equally effective on soft.

He won his first handicap the other day at Hamilton and added to that with a brave victory at Nottingham on Monday night. He stays well and he is possibly better going right handed than left handed but did nothing wrong at Nottingham and he can hopefully carry on from here.

He is a horse with bags of ability but he doesn’t always show up at the races unfortunately. When the day is right for him in his head he can definitely win races. I think he will stay well and I can’t wait for him to get the idea.

Winner of six of his 14 starts and currently rated 105. Scored by a length from Soleil Marin in the Group 3 La Coupe at Longchamp (1m 2f) this month.
He continued his progression this year having won a listed race and then finishing third in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown by winning a Group 3 at Longchamp last Monday. I have never hidden the fact that he is a very exciting prospect and the plan is to move him up to Group 1 level now and see what we have got. An Australian syndicate have bought 80 per cent of him and the main aim is to go to Australia in the Autumn but his next race will probably be the Eclipse at Sandown and then there is a Group 1 in Germany at the end of July that we will keep our eyes on.

He won really well on Saturday at Sandown and he is a good horse when conditions are right for him. The plan will be to go to Sandown on Eclipse Day for the big mile handicap or the John Smith’s Cup at York over a mile two. I have always thought that he would stay well so it may be time to try and find a few more pounds by stepping up in trip.

No wins from 5 starts and currently rated 58. Finished second, beaten three quarters of a length, to Dew Pond in a handicap at Thirsk (1m 4f) last week off his current mark.
She was quite a backward filly and only came into training as a three-year-old last year. She has had plenty to learn in a short time and had three quick runs to get a handicap mark last year. This year she ran in two handicaps and was third at Yarmouth on quick ground and then second at Thirsk last week. She still showed plenty of greenness and when they quickened they went away from her then she got the idea that she had to catch up. I think she is a filly who will win races down the line once the penny has dropped. She should stay a mile four plus in the future and is possibly better on quicker ground.

Winner of three of his 13 starts and currently rated 76. Has won his last two starts and scored by a length from Orin Swift at Goodwood (2m) this month off his current mark.
He is an improving stayer and last year he was a bit too weak to tackle the longer distance races. He strengthened up really well over the Winter and he has won two of his three races. He wants a bit of cut in the ground and I think the sky could be the limit for him as he stays so well. When he has the right conditions he could be a really exciting horse and he is in the big handicap on the July course at Newmarket next month. He is going to go up for his last win at Goodwood.

Unplaced on his only start at Sandown (1m 2f) in June.
I think he is going to be a horse for the future and he has the scope to be a stayer. I ran him over a mile and two furlongs at Sandown last Saturday and unfortunately he missed the break and didn’t manage to learn much trailing the field. I would rule that performance out and we will run him over a mile and four furlongs from now. He will be a nice handicapper if not this year next year.

Winner of one of his 5 starts and currently rated 67. Off the mark with a length success from Cardano at Goodwood (1m2f) last Friday.
He stays well and won at Goodwood in good fashion as he looked beat in the final furlong but then picked up and came to win quite cosily. He will stay well and a mile two is his minimum trip and he didn’t really handle Goodwood the other day and will find some improvement on a more galloping track and possibly quicker ground as well. He is in on Friday on the July course at Newmarket and he won’t carry a penalty in that race as he won an apprentice race at Goodwood so if he is well and ready to go I might roll the dice with him. He should be an improver throughout the Summer.

He is a horse I like and he willl probably want a mile and a bit of cut in the ground. He travelled well the other day at Lingfield but I don’t know why he jumped the path after a few furlongs and then he was a bit all at sea. We will try and run him again soon and take it from there.
