David O'Meara Stable Tour
04 Jun 2019

DAVID O’MEARA is already well under way to complete a seventh consecutive season with over 100 winners with 43 on the board already and over £545,000 in prize money as he moves into June with his team flying high.

The Upper Helmsley trainer clearly believes that his team are not there to stand in their boxes as he has notched up 113 winner from 1074 runners last year and his 109 winners of 2017 were acquired from 1078 runners.

O’Meara struck gold in the ultra competive Tokyo Handicap at Epsom on Saturday with the nine-year-old Watchable and he has the likes of Lord Glitters, and Suedois entering the Veteran stage but well capable of holding their own in classy company.

Summerghand could be one of his performers at the Royal meeting and there should plenty more to be heard from the likes of Mawakee, Fastman and Southern Rock.

Whether he passes his Personal best of 136 winner in 2013 remains to be seen but it won’t be for want of trying for an outfit that invariably does well with older horses bought from other trainers.

David kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about some of his main hopes for the months ahead.

Winner of six of his 59 starts and currently rated 105. Finished second, beaten two and a quarter lengths, to Cardsharp on his latest start at York (7f) in May off his current mark.
He is another solid horse who has dropped a little in the handicap this year as he is getting older. He will run in all those big handicaps and will probably go for the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot as the owner likes having runners there. After that we will look at the mile handicap at Goodwood.

Winner of seven of his 60 starts and currently rated 93. In the form of his life and made it three wins from his last four starts when scoring by three and a half lengths from Lake Volta in a valuable handicap at Epsom (6f) on Saturday.
It was a very good run at Epsom at the weekend and he broke the track record. If he can dictate on a sharp six he is hard to catch. That race had been the plan for awhile and it worked out. The handicapper will probably have his say and we will have to go up in grade. He is a horse who has got faster with age and he wants fast ground and quick tracks.

Winner of eight of his 40 starts and currently rated 115. Finished fourth, beaten three and a half lengths, to Safe Voyage in a Listed event at Haydock (7f) in May on his latest start.
He ran a lovely race first time out at Sandown this year and wasn’t as good at Haydock but the ground was very soft. His best form is over seven furlongs or a mile around a bend. Leopardstown and Goodwood would come on the radar – there is the Clipper Logistics and the Lennox Stakes.

Winner of four of his 49 starts and currently rated 94.   Best effort this term when finishing runner-up, beaten a length and a half, to What’s The Story in a handicap at York (1m) in May off a mark of 93
He ran a great race at York and disappointed us at Epsom. He keeps his best form for York and we will keep him there as much as possible. We will aim him for the Clipper Mile which he won two years ago will be his target. He is effective between seven furlongs and a mile.

Winner of 10 of his 53 starts and currently rated 100. Finished fourth, beaten four lengths, to Cardsharp at York (7f) off a mark of 102.
He is an ultra consistent performer who always runs his race. He ran a nice race at York last time and he wants a sharp seven furlongs. He is a front running horse who is better when he can dictate. He always run well at Goodwood so we could send him down there later in the year.

Winner of six of his 21 starts and currently rated 116. Better effort this season on his reappearance in the Group 1 Dubai Turf at Meydan (1m) in March when third, beaten only a length and three quarters, to Almond Eye.
He is most likely to go to Royal Ascot for the Queen Anne Stakes where he was beaten so narrowly last year. After that we will see as we do have the options of the Eclipse and the International at York over ten furlongs plus. Depending on how he performs at Ascot we could step him up in trip later in the year but he does seems in great form ahead of Ascot which seems to be his favourite track.

Winner of six of his 29 starts and currently rated 92. Returned to winning form at Windsor (1m 2f) last week when beating Shareef Star half a length off his current mark.
He won well at Windsor when trying a mile two for the first time. It appeared to suit and it opens up plenty of opportunities over that trip. A big mile and two handicap that could suit could  be the John Smith’s Cup and we will probably chip away at 0-100 handicaps at just below top level and pick up a few.

He is a very solid performer who doesn’t get his head in front too often but is always thereabouts. We ran him over six furlongs recently and he showed some good form and we will keep him in high class handicaps up to seven furlongs.

He is a fast horse with plenty of ability and he won well at Thirsk. He was maybe taken off a feet a bit in a very fast five furlong race at York and we are looking for a fast six furlong race as that will probably suit him best.

She ran a lovely race on her stable debut at Lingfield in a Group 3 and was just a little below par last time. She has come out of the race well and we will go back for what she does well – fast ground over six or seven furlongs and we will look for black type with her wherever possible.

She is a well bred filly from Cheveley Park and she has been a nice addition. She has improved with every run and won nicely at Beverley last time out. She is a front running filly and seven furlongs or a mile will suit. Beverley was the only time we ran her on the turf and it seemed to bring out some improvement so we'll try and keep her on the grass. She could be a progressive filly.

He ran a cracking race at York behind Space Blues who has franked the form since. Seven furlongs seems to be his trip and the fast the ground the better. He is still lightly enough raced and he is an exciting horse who, hopefully, has a big handicap in him this year.

No wins from 5 starts and currently rated 67. Finished sixth, beaten four and a half lengths, to Rambaldi in a handicap at York (1m 1/2f) on latest start in May off a mark of 70.
We still haven’t worked out what his trip is yet and he will run over a mile at Ripon this week. He ran a nice race at Nottingham last time but just got a bit behind early on. He is another lightly raced horse who is well up to winning off his mark.

Winner of five of his 7 starts and currently rated 100. Completed a hat trick when scoring by half a length from Recon Mission at Chester (5f) in May off a mark of 94.
He won very well at Chester and things just went wrong for him at York. He banged his head in the stalls and missed the break and Danny (Tudhope) just eased him up. We will give him a bit of time before his next run and the Scurry Stakes at Sandown is a possibility and he will be there for all those good five furlong listed races and handicaps.

Winner of one of her 6 starts and currently rated 65. Off the mark with a three quarter lengths success from Fantastic Ms Fox at Beverley (1m 4f) in May off a mark of 60. Unplaced at Doncaster (1m 4f) on Friday off her current mark.
She is a filly who won well at Beverley and she stays very well and hopefully can pick up another couple of races as the season progresses.

Winner of one of his 9 starts and currently rated 69. Off the mark with a head success from Sylviacliffs at Southwell (7f) in May off a mark of 65.
He is a progressive horse who has been pretty consistent this year. He won at Southwell and he seems to prefer a front running seven furlongs to a mile at the moment  but he should stay further.

Unraced
He is an unraced three-year-old of Sir Robert’s who is very well bred. He is from a family we know well and Isadora and Pandora his half sisters both improved with age. He will be starting off later this year and is a nice middle distance prospect who should improve from three to four.

Winner of one of his 3 starts and currently rated 78. Made a winning debut for the stable when scoring by four and a half lengths from Al Hadeer in a maiden at Hamilton (1m 1/2f) in May.
He won well on his only start for us at Hamilton. We bought him in February and he had some very good French maiden form and we thought quite a bit of him going to Hamilton last month. He showed us why we like him and he has a mark of 78. There is a handicap at Hamilton in the middle of June and he could go back up there. We hope there is plenty of improvement in him. He beats an odds-on favourite and did it nicely and we are hopeful he can be competitive in a handicap.

Winner of one of his 2 starts. Made an impressive debut at Chester (5f) in May when scoring by six lengths from It’s Been Noted and subsequently fifth, beaten four and a half lengths, to Flippa The Strippa in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown (5f) later that month.
He won well at Chester and disappointed at Sandown on very different ground. We may still head to Royal Ascot with him as the Owner likes having runners there and we haven’t lost faith in him. We still think there is a bright future ahead for him.

Winner of two of her 5 starts. Finished fifth, beaten two and a half lengths, to Real Appeal in a Listed event at Maisons-Laffitte (5f) in May.
She is a very tough filly who won at Ripon and Chester and was fifth in a Listed race in France at the weekend. She is from a good family and we aim to get some black type into her before the end of the year. She might be a filly who would have a go at the Supersprint.

Placed in both of his starts. Finished third, beaten a length and a half, to Toro Strike at Thirsk (6f) on Monday.
He is a nice colt and he ran well first time out when runner-up to Misty Grey who finished third in the Woodcote. He ran another good race at Thirsk on Monday behind Toro Strike who came from a warm race at Newbury and he has plenty of size and scope and should progress through the year.

Winner of one of his 3 starts. Scored by a short head from Gin Gembre and narrowly beaten when runner-up in two subsequent starts. Failed by only a nose behind Probable Cause latest at Wolverhampton (5f) in May.
He is a small little horse who has a big heart and tries hard. He has won and not been  beaten far in two novices with penalties. He is a solid horse and we might try him in another novice and then a nice nursery later in the year.
