Martyn Meade Stable Tour
16 Apr 2019

MARTYN MEADE made the move to Manton from Sefton Lodge in Newmarket just over 12 months ago and looks to make a happy return to his former home when Advertise puts his 2000 Guineas claims on the line on May 4.

The Dewhurst runner-up bypasses Wednesday’s Craven Stakes in favour of a racecourse gallop at Newmarket a day earlier but a benchmark to that form and a possible second representative in the Classic could be in line if stablemate Confiding is given the go ahead and comes up to scratch in that contest.

The Manton team could also have a say in the proceedings at the opening Newmarket meeting of the season as Chilean, a first time out scorer in a Group 3 in France, last season is pencilled in for Thursday’s Earl of Sefton Stakes as Meade is happy that he has a solid team behind him as the turf season begins in earnest.

Martyn kindly spoke to Tony Elves of about those he hopes can make inroads for him this term.

Older Horses
Sina Cova
4 b g Casamento - Sina Cova
Winner of a bumper at Huntingdon in November when scoring by a neck from Shpadoinkle Day and finished creditable second, beaten four and a half lengths, to Glory And Fortune in a listed event at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. Unplaced in the Champion bumper, beaten 22 lengths, to Evoi Allen at Cheltenham in March.
He has run in three bumpers and we might now run him on the Flat over a mile and a half. His last start was in the Champion bumper at Cheltenham and, whilst he had run around there before and finished second, at that level they just ran him off his feet a little bit and he just lost his action coming down the hill. When he won it was at Huntingdon which is a flat track and we might go in one of those distance races and maybe on the AW.
4 b c Iffraaj - Childa
Winner of three of his 9 starts and currently rated 101. Gained his last success in April of last year when scoring by a length and a quarter from Study Of Man in the Group 3 Prix La Force at Longchamp (1m 1f).
He is going to the Earl of Sefton at Newmarket on Thursday. He is in good form at the moment and that’s the sort of race that should suit him. He is a horse that is not great in stature but what he lacks in that department he makes up with having a big heart. He started off well last season and is probably best when he is fresh. He is bouncing at the moment so we are bound for Newmarket on Thursday.
Foundation Filly
Raven's Pass
4 ch g Raven's Pass - Foundation Filly
Winner of one of his 7 starts and currently rated 90. Off the mark with a length and a quarter success from Mekong at Salisbury (1m 4f) in June off a mark of 83.
He won a race at Salisbury really well and then his form tailed off towards the end a bit. We were thinking of the Chester Cup if he was going to get in there although that might be stretching him stamina-wise. If not we will stick to a mile and a half and he would want decent ground – it was on the fast side when he won at Salisbury.
4 b g Galileo - Breathe
Winner of one of his 5 starts and currently rated 83. Off the mark with a short head defeat of Miss Blondell at Chelmsford (1m) in November off a mark of 80.
He was a winner last time at Chelmsford in November and we would like to try him on the turf. I think he is reasonably handicapped and he should be out within the next three weeks. He is in good form.
Rise Hall
Forever Bond
4 b g Frankel - Forever Bond
Winner of two of his 6 starts and currently rated 87. Scored by a two and a quarter lengths from The Emperor Within at Nottingham (1m 1/2f) last week off his current mark.
He won nicely at Nottingham and we are hoping to aim him for York. There is a handicap there on May 17 – the Matchbook Best Value Exchange Handicap. He will go up on Tuesday but hopefully not too high and looking at that run there is plenty of improvement in him. The race wasn’t run particularly to suit him and I think he did really well to come from last to first.
Sea Ess Seas
Swiss Spirit
4 b g Swiss Spirit - Rabshih
No wins from 7 starts and currently rated 64. Finished third, beaten a length and a quarter, to Archimedes when last seen out at Southwell (5f) in March of last year.
He is a moderate type who might pick up a race on the AW if it falls right for him.
Three Year Olds
3 b c Showcasing - Furbelow
Winner of three of his 5 starts and currently rated 119. Gained his most prestigious success in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh (6f) in August when beating So Perfect half a length. Ended his first season with a highly creditable second, beaten two and three quarter lengths, to Too Darn Hot in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket (7f) in October.
He goes straight to the 2000 Guineas and he is very much on track for that. As long as he’s alright in the next three weeks he will go for the Guineas and he is progressing really nicely and is where we want him to be at this point in his preparation. He is a stronger horse than he was last year and he has matured  - we are pleased with him in every way. If he improves on last year’s performances then he has a good shout. He will definitely get a mile and his form in finishing second to Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst obviously reads very well.
Forever Bond
Monsieur Bond
3 b f Monsieur Bond - Forever Bond
Winner of both of her starts and currently rated 75. Made a winning debut in a novice event at Kempton (7f) in December when beating Renegade Master a length and a quarter and followed up with a short head victory from Secret Ace in a similar event at Wolverhampton (6f) later that month.
She is a dual winner on the AW and she is being prepared to go to Yarmouth on April 23. She is quite well handicapped and we hope she will run well there. She gets seven furlongs but she is quick enough to be effective over six furlongs.
Entre Nous
3 b c Iffraaj - Entre Nous
Winner of one his 3 starts and currently rated 103. Made a winning debut at Newbury (6 1/2f) in June when scoring by a length from Almurr. Finished third, beaten three and three quarter lengths to Too Darn Hot in the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown (1m) in September.
At the moment, he is on course to run in the Craven Stakes and as a fall back he is entered in a £100,000 race at Newcastle. The plan has been to run in the Craven and he has entries in the Guineas etc but he would have to win the Craven in emphatic fashion to run there. He is a pretty good horse who was immature as a two-year-old. He won his maiden pretty well and then ran a good race at Goodwood and then ran well behind Too Darn Hot on his last run. He is an interesting prospect and he is going well at home.
Vale Of York
3 b c Vale Of York - Almatlaie
Scored by a length and half from Gin Palace in a novice event at Lingfield (7f) in December.
Won his first race at Lingfield pretty impressively and we think he will be much better on the turf so we didn’t run him again on the AW. We are looking for a suitable opportunity on the turf for him where there is some cut in the ground. He is a median auction winner so he only has a 4lb penalty in Novice events so that could work well for him. Hopefully, he will eventually prove good enough to run in listed company.
3 ch c Iffraaj - Alabelle
Winner of one of his 2 starts. Made a winning debut at Kempton (1m) in March when scoring by two and three quarter lengths from Majestic Dawn and finished runner-up, beaten a length and a quarter, at Wolverhampton (1m 1/2f) this month.
He was an easy winner first time out at Kempton and then just hated the track when runner-up at Wolverhampton. Everything went wrong for him – he was humping a lot of weight around and he had a terrible draw. That’s not really him and we will have him out on the turf. He shouldn’t be written off after that run as he is better than that even though he finished second. He will probably get further than a mile and there is no reason we can’t step him up to a mile and two.
Last Cry
3 ch f Tamayuz - Last Cry
Winner of one of her 4 starts and currently rated 75. Finished runner-up, beaten a short head, to Isango at Wolverhampton (7f) this month off a mark of 72.
She is a bony little filly and was a little unfortunate not to win last time she ran. She had a bad draw and put in a flying finish and would have won in another three strides. She is well handicapped and has come out of that race fine. She will run on the turf now.
Fox Vardy
Dance With Another
3 b c Frankel - Dance With Another
Better effort on debut at Ascot (7f) last September when fifth, beaten five and three quarter lengths, to Prince Eiji.
He was due to run at Newbury which was unfortunate but he just spiked a bit of a temperature. It was down on Sunday morning but we have waited so long that we didn’t want to risk it. He has taken a long time to develop but he has done very well through the Winter and I think his two-year-old form in not representative of his ability. There is much more to him and hopefully we will have him out quickly.
3 ch f Frankel – Ladies Are Forever
She is taking a bit of time to develop and will be a backend three-year-old. She is a very well bred filly and she has just been weak in herself and there is no point in running her until she is developed.
Harbour Watch
3 b c Harbour Watch - Bazzana
Winner of one of his four starts and currently rated 83. Off the mark on his final start at Salisbury (7f) in September when beating Glorious Dane three and a quarter lengths off a mark of 70.
We are having thoughts about his entries at the moment and he will be running over seven furlongs. He would want good to firm ground and he is reasonably handicapped.
3 b c Maxios - Unaided
Finished third, beaten seven lengths, to Blood Eagle at Wolverhampton (1m 4f) in April.
He ran well when finishing third at Wolverhampton recently. He missed the break and he is a really nice stamp of a horse who will be winning before long.
King Ademar
Parisian Affair
Scat Daddy
3 br c Scat Daddy - Parisian Affair
No wins from 3 starts. Finished runner-up, beaten two and a half lengths, to King Of Change in a maiden at Nottingham (1m 1/2f) last week.
He ran at Nottingham last week and came up against a good one of Richard Hannon’s. He’s a winner waiting to happen and he will hopefully go and win his maiden next time. I was very pleased with the way he ran he was just beaten by a better horse on the day.
Loving Glance
3 b f Invincible Spirit – Kissable
She is a really nice filly who had a bit of a setback as a two-year-old. We are now making serious progress with her and I think she could be out in the next few months. She will start over a mile and then step up to a mile and quarter.
Sparkling Eyes
3 b c Toronado - Sparkling Eyes
No wins from 2 starts. Better effort at Windsor (1m 2f) last week when third, beaten two and a quarter lengths, to Days Of Glory.
He has had a couple of runs and finished third at Windsor last time. He is a work in progress and he should improve. He will stick at a mile and a quarter at this stage.
3 b f Zoffany - Arcangela
Finished fifth, beaten two and a half lengths, to Cloak And Dagger on her only start at Ascot (7f) in September.
She had one start last year and when she ran at Ascot the ground was a bit too firm for her. We looked after her afterwards and she has developed nicely over the Winter. She is ready to go on the turf and will need a bit of give in the ground. She is not the fastest developer and she will be a couple of months off a run.
Exceed and Excel
3 b f Exceed and Excel - Myrine
Unplaced to Quick in a maiden fillies event at Newbury (7f) on Friday.
She ran at Newbury last Friday and didn’t go a yard in the ground. She didn’t act on it at all and she is going to need fast ground. That run is best forgotten and she is much better than that. Her work at home is very good which is why we put her in at Newbury and there is much more to come  from her.
White Wedding
Poet's Voice
3 bro f Poet's Voice - White Wedding
Finished third, beaten four lengths, to Muchly on her only start at Newbury (1m) in October.
She just had the one run at Newbury in October which was really good where she finished really well. We looked after her during the Winter and, hopefully, we will get her out in the next couple of week as she is ready to go. She needs a nice sort of track and would go for a Newmarket maiden or something like that – she is that sort of quality.
Champs Elysees
3 ch c Champs Elysees - Galicuix
No wins from 3 starts. Finished runner-up, beaten four and a half lengths, to Emirates Empire in a maiden at Wolverhampton (1m 4f) on Saturday night.
He is a big rangy horse and we needed to get him out and running and he ran at Wolverhampton on Saturday night where he finished second. It is difficult to get him spot on at home so we gave him a run around Wolverhampton. Not withstanding that, we did expect him to win but he was on the wide outside all the way around and it wasn’t run to suit him as there was a very slow pace. However, he come out of the race well and hopefully he can be placed to win next time – there is a race for him at Goodwood at the first meeting there. He is a nice horse and nothing happens quite quickly for him.
Pearl Of Manama
Scat Daddy
3 bay f Scat Daddy - Auction
She is a real tall filly and has taken time. She is a very good prospect as far as we are concerned and we just have to find the right maiden with her to start in. She is doing everything we could possibly want and she is by Scat Daddy and a proper filly. She is an outstanding looking filly and she should be top class.
Luminous Gold
Havana Gold
3 b c Havana Gold - Luminous Gold
No wins from 3 starts and currently rated 80. Finished third, beaten three and three quarter lengths, to Global Prospector in a maiden at Wolverhampton on his reappearance in March.
He is rated 80 and may run at Ascot in a 0-85 on May 10. He has done well physically and we are hoping for good things from him.
3 gr c Mastercraftsman - Arosa
Winner of one of his 2 starts. Scored by three and a quarter lengths from Themaxwecan at Leicester (1m) in April.
He won nicely on his reappearance at Leicester this month and he is going to go for one of those Derby Trials either the Sandown or Epsom one. He is also in the Dante and he would obviously have to win one of those trials to go there. He stays really well and he had plenty in the tank at Leicester.
Dewhurst runner-up who goes straight for the 2000 Guineas and looks sure to have a lucrative season whatever the outcome there.
goes well when fresh and could be worth an each way shout in Thursday’s Earl of Sefton.
likeable colt who was considered immature last year but still showed solid level of form. Can win his share of races this time around.
King Ademar
runner-up to a well-fancied rival at Nottingham last week and can soon go one better in the right company.
Rise Hall
comfortable winner at Nottingham last week and looks capable of overcoming a rise in his rating.
galloped his rivals into the ground on his reappearance at Leicester and plenty more to come from him over middle distances.
